Over 2,000 gamers have been selected in the United States to undergo training as air traffic controllers.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recruited over 2,000 people as part of an initiative to recruit gamers to train as air traffic controllers. Authorities intend to utilize the skills developed by video game enthusiasts through gaming.

According to US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, the agency has already met 94% of its annual hiring plan. The recruitment of over 2,000 new employees represents a record high for a single year, and over 2,000 more candidates are currently undergoing selection and preparing to enter the FAA Academy.

The campaign launched in April. The agency believes that gamers possess the qualities needed for air traffic controllers: the ability to simultaneously monitor multiple processes, make quick decisions, maintain concentration, navigate spatially, and solve complex problems.

Higher education is not a requirement for this position. According to the FAA, approximately a quarter of American air traffic controllers hold a college degree. Candidates must successfully pass professional testing and subsequent training.
