One Billion Dollars Invested in Uzbekistan's Pharmaceutical Industry
In recent years, Uzbekistan has commissioned 330 new pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities with a total value of one billion dollars. In addition, further projects worth another $1.2 billion are currently being implemented in the industry. The authorities expect this to increase the share of local production in supplying the country with medicines to 70%.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this at a meeting with healthcare and pharmaceutical industry workers.
To develop the sector, the "Tashkent Biopharm City" cluster and pharmaceutical free economic zones were also created in the Andijan, Namangan, Jizzakh, and Tashkent regions.
The meeting also discussed the integration of artificial intelligence into medicine. According to the head of state, AI will become an assistant to doctors and nurses. Digitalization is planned to be rolled out to state institutions as well as private clinics and pharmacies.
On the eve of the meeting, the president signed a decree awarding medical professionals and pharmacists ahead of their professional holiday.
