Nicolas Cage to star in National Treasure 3
Disney has given the go-ahead to film the third installment of the National Treasure adventure film series. According to project director John Turteltaub, the company is happy with the script and intends to bring back the main cast led by Nicolas Cage, Lifehacker reports.
In 2022, Nicolas Cage expressed doubts about his return to the franchise after several unsuccessful projects, after which major studios stopped inviting him to work. The actor later said that the third installment would not be filmed at all. However, the situation has changed, and the new installment is expected to be released on screens almost 20 years after the release of the second film.
The National Treasure franchise was founded in 2004. In it, Cage played the role of Ben Gates, an archaeologist who solves historical puzzles and exposes state secrets in order to protect the honor of his family. Despite the mixed reviews of film critics, the first film was popular with audiences, grossing $ 347 million at the box office. The second part, titled "Book of Secrets", released in 2007, grossed $ 460 million worldwide.
Director Jon Turteltaub has 40 years of experience in the film industry, during which he made films such as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", "Steep Turns" and "Thinking Big". The director's last full-length work was the 2018 film "The Meg", starring Jason Statham.
