New York Mayor presented a new strategy against antisemitism
New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has announced a comprehensive strategy against antisemitism. The plan provides for increasing the annual budget to combat hate crimes from $3 million to $29 million, strengthening the security of synagogues, and supporting Jewish cultural institutions.

According to DW, Mamdani presented this strategy on September 29. The city administration plans to allocate additional funds for the protection of synagogues and to reactivate the task force on the security of Jewish religious facilities.
As part of the strategy, information campaigns against antisemitism will be conducted across the city, and educational programs providing information about the Holocaust will be expanded.
It is also planned to direct millions of dollars to support Jewish cultural centers and non-profit organizations. Among them are the Holocaust memorial being built in the Queens area and the New Jewish Culture Center in Brooklyn.
In a video message posted on the social network X, Mamdani said that although Jews make up 12 percent of New York's population, more than half of the hate crimes recorded by the police are related to antisemitism.
"This is not only unacceptable, but it is a situation we must change. The city administration will take a leading role in this regard," the mayor said.
Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim mayor in New York's history, is known for his support of Palestine and criticism of Israeli policy. These views of his have caused dissatisfaction among a part of the city's Jewish community. At the same time, there are also supporters of Mamdani among New York Jews.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, called Mamdani an antisemite.
According to DW, during his 2026 election campaign, Mamdani said that if Netanyahu came to New York, he would try to secure his arrest based on the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in 2024. However, after taking office as mayor, he admitted that he does not have such authority.
