A new gas condensate field, Karatau, has been identified in the Muynak district of Karakalpakstan. A commercial flow of natural gas and condensate was obtained following geological exploration work in the central part of Ustyurt.
Specialists drilled the first exploratory well in the Karatau area to a depth of 4,860 meters. On October 3, during testing of the Lower Jurassic deposits at a depth of 3,213 to 3,273 meters, a commercial flow of hydrocarbons was recorded, officially confirming the discovery of the new field.
To clarify reserves and study the structure, it is planned to complete the drilling of a second exploratory well by the end of the year, as well as to begin drilling the third and fourth exploration and evaluation wells.
The results obtained will help identify new promising directions for further study of deep-seated formations in the Ustyurt region.
In addition, practical work has begun to seal the emergency well at the "25 Years of Independence" gas field in the Baysun district of the Surxondaryo region. Specialists from the Chinese corporation CNPC have been brought in to conduct the complex technical and technological operations.
