"My Turkish brother-in-law is the reason I married Veysel." Shahlo Salayeva shared her love story

“My Turkish brother-in-law is the reason I married Veysel.” Shahlo Salayeva shared her love story

Singer Shahlo Salayeva gave an interview to Darakchi’s YouTube channel. During the conversation, she spoke about how she met her husband, Turkish singer Veysel Dulgur, the trials in her life, and her family happiness.

“I met Veysel because of my Turkish brother-in-law”

— My husband initially came to work as a live singer in a restaurant. At that time, my son Murod was a three-month-old baby. I was newly divorced, having just ended my past relationship, and was busy with myself and my son. One day, my family said, “A new singer has arrived, let’s go and listen to his songs, everyone is interested in going. He sings live, and his stage presence is beautiful.” Since we are from Khorezm, we love Turkish songs. Moreover, since our family is also a family of artists, we highly appreciate live performances.

That day, we all went to the restaurant. I have an older sister whose husband, my brother-in-law, is from Turkey. He came with us too. Actually, I didn’t go there intending to sing. I didn’t even know Veysel would invite me to the stage. Since my brother-in-law is Turkish, he probably spoke with Veysel and said, “I am also from Turkey, one of our family members also sings, invite her to the stage,” and Veysel invited me to the stage. Then, after hearing my voice, he was amazed.

At that time, he liked my singing, saying, “Since I came to Uzbekistan, I haven’t heard such a beautiful voice as yours.” Then, he asked my brother-in-law, meaning: “She has a very beautiful voice, she sings good songs. Maybe we could sing a duet.” My brother-in-law joked with him: “Do you like her?” and he replied, “Yes, her voice is beautiful.” Then my brother-in-law said: “Marry her.”

Among Turks, no matter how beautiful she is, one cannot even look at a woman who has a family and a child. For this reason, Veysel said, “What are you saying, she has a baby in her arms.” My brother-in-law told him that I had recently divorced. Still, my husband did not take these words seriously at that time. That day, they also joked with me, saying, “Marry him. You two suit each other. You will sing songs together on beautiful stages.” After that, eight months passed. Veysel and I had a friendly relationship. When I went to the restaurant with my friends, we would sing songs together. Gradually, the duets we sang together reached the top on social networks. Just one of our songs reached more than 21 million views. After that, every time I went there, he would invite me to the stage, and we would sing songs together.

“He asked me to give him a chance to justify my trust”

— Before agreeing to get married, Veysel and I talked for several months. In the process of talking, we became very close friends. Without hiding anything, he openly told me about the events in his life and what his family was like. During our communication, I realized that he is a good, truthful person.

For some time, I saw Veysel’s kindness towards my son and me. During Murod’s teething, in difficult times when we had to go to the hospital at night, because he was with us, I felt as if I had a protector by my side. At that time, we didn’t talk about love at all. Our relationship was only friendly.

Later, when he told me he liked me and asked for my hand, I rejected his proposal, saying that I didn’t trust him and that I had lost this feeling. Then he said that if I gave him one chance, he would justify my trust and that he could handle it. Then he spoke with my mother. From the very first conversation, my mother liked him. Because he didn’t lie, he told everything about his life.

“His intentions were serious from the beginning”

— When he opened his heart, he told me from the very beginning that he wanted to marry me. He said, “Give me a chance. Let’s get to know each other closely. Maybe I can be the person you want, maybe I am the one,” and after that, I accepted his proposal. Veysel stated his intentions from the beginning, he didn’t make childish talk like “let’s date.” Because he was serious and truthful, and protected and respected me every time, I agreed.

“When our relationship started, I had major traumas”

— When our relationship started to get to know each other closely, I had very major traumas. I couldn’t trust him at all. If he had a phone in his hand, it always seemed to me as if he was texting someone. He would be surprised to see me snatching the phone from his hand. Like a doctor, he would sit down and explain everything. He became the person who healed me mentally. Every time I showed him my traumas, he never scolded me; on the contrary, he taught me to talk, saying, “Come, let’s talk it out.” Before him, I was a person who didn’t tell anyone about my inner feelings, swallowing them inside, and in the end, “exploding.” Veysel managed to make me speak. Every time I didn’t trust him, he proved that I was thinking wrongly. And now, even if he sits with his phone for days, I trust him, says the singer.

“Allah gives everyone a trial according to their strength”

— Allah gives everyone a trial according to their strength. If my husband hadn’t entered my life, I wouldn’t have been able to endure those things. Veysel entered my life, and after that, rumors started. In a sense, these trials were probably necessary for me to choose Veysel. He was by my side in every trial. He lived through my bitterness, my stress, my crying, and the days when I lay sick for three or four days with me. He always supported me.

He was my support in staying silent during all kinds of rumors. Anyone can speak, but being able to stay silent requires great strength. But there is also a reward for this. For example, if someone else had been in his place, seeing so many problems, they might have said “forget it” and left. Not everyone can stand up and say, “I am here, I will be by your side.” Veysel told me, “Let them speak, everyone is showing their upbringing. You just stay silent, God will elevate you as much as you stay silent. They are actually your servants, they are serving you. Instead, look at those who love you.”

“Veysel first accepted my son, and then asked for my hand”

— There is a special “bond” between my husband Veysel and my son Murod. Sometimes even I cannot enter that relationship. This was probably the thing that convinced me at the very beginning. Because mothers know, feeling that their child is receiving love is the greatest happiness for us. Every mother wants her child to be raised without lacking anything and not to be starved of love. Since I also grew up without a father, I know this well. My father did not live with us for many years. Therefore, I know, at least partially, what it is like to be fatherless.

Before Veysel told me he would marry me, he told me that he had accepted Murod. Whenever we went to the restaurant, he would carry Murod and play with him. My son also loves him very much. My child loves musical instruments, so the two of them get along well. Veysel himself is a person who loves children very much. This was a major reason for me to accept him. Our relationship did not start with love — neither for him nor for me.

Even though he hadn't been married before, he had been in two serious relationships, meaning he had been engaged. Because he didn't receive the respect and understanding he wanted, and because he was also betrayed, his relationships broke down. At that time, our pains were almost similar. Therefore, in the beginning, he told me, “I respected you not for yourself, but for your motherhood, your love for your family and child, and seeing that you carry your child with you wherever you go.” Our relationship started from such mutual respect and trust, says the singer.

“My husband found the fame in Uzbekistan that he couldn't find in Turkey in 16 years”

— My husband was involved in art in Turkey for 16 years. But he found the fame and love of fans in Uzbekistan that he hadn't found there for so long. For this reason, his love for our people is very high, and currently, we do not want to leave Uzbekistan. Maybe, if fortune permits, we might go to Istanbul in a few years, she says.

“My husband did not become famous because of me”

— Veysel did not become famous through me. I think we walked this path together. He was always by my side until we reached this point. We won the love of fans not when we sang alone, but when we sang duets together. I cannot say “he became famous because of me.” Allah made it happen, and we rose together, — says singer Shahlo Salayeva.
