More than a thousand families from the "Iron Notebook" will receive solar panels free of charge

In Uzbekistan, a project for the free installation of solar panels for low-income families and social facilities is nearing completion. In the final stage, 1,197 families included in the "Iron Notebook" will receive the equipment.

The Yorqin Xonadon project is being implemented by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan jointly with the Saudi company Acwa and the Chinese China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI). The total budget of the program is 20 million dollars.

The new stage will cover Karakalpakstan, Samarkand, and Bukhara regions. Karakalpakstan will account for 65% of all installations. The lists of recipients are being formed jointly with regional khokimiyats based on the "Iron Notebook" registry.

Earlier, within the framework of the project, solar panels were provided to 1,580 families and 334 social facilities. Among them are schools, kindergartens, and rural medical centers in Syrdarya, Bukhara, Tashkent, and Navoi regions, as well as in Karakalpakstan.

Taking into account the final stage, the total number of families and social facilities covered by the program will exceed 3.1 thousand.

Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjaev noted that the project is being implemented against the backdrop of expanding the use of renewable energy sources in the country. According to him, the installation of solar panels simultaneously solves a social task and allows for reducing the load on the power grid.

"Today, Uzbekistan is actively increasing the share of clean energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and decrease environmental impact. A practical step in this direction was the Yorqin Xonadon project, which solves an important social task. It provides free and uninterrupted electricity to those categories of the population and social institutions that need it most, while simultaneously reducing the load on the country's power grid," the minister said.

Acwa's General Manager in Uzbekistan, Jon Zaidi, reported that under the project, solar panels are installed directly in the homes of families and at social facilities.

According to him, the use of such equipment allows for reducing electricity costs. In addition, households can generate additional income by feeding surplus generated electricity back into the grid.

The Yorqin Xonadon initiative is being implemented in accordance with the decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On additional measures to introduce energy-saving technologies and develop small-capacity renewable energy sources."

In the first quarter of 2026, more than 45.2 thousand citizens of Uzbekistan received state subsidies for electricity generated using solar panels. The total volume of payments amounted to 73.9 billion soums.
