The number of deaths related to high temperatures has reached an unprecedented level.
According to TASS, citing data from the daily mortality monitoring system, 5,232 people have died in Spain from extreme heat this summer. This is the highest number on record.
In August alone, high temperatures led to the deaths of 2,147 people.
The current figure has already surpassed previous peaks: 4,789 heat-related deaths were recorded in the country in 2022, and 3,035 in 2023.
Most of the victims this summer were people over 65, accounting for 5,048 deaths. Citizens over 85 remain the most vulnerable.
