More than 300,000 visas revoked in the US since the start of Trump's second term

More than 300 thousand visas have been revoked in the US since the start of Trump's second term

US President Donald Trump's administration has canceled more than 300 thousand visas since January 2025, when he began his second term. The tightening of immigration policy affects not only lawbreakers, but also foreigners whose social media posts and participation in protests have drawn the dissatisfaction of the authorities.

Tommy Pigott, a US Department of State spokesperson, reported that the total number of revoked visas exceeded 300 thousand as of October 20.

According to him, the current administration is doing this faster than any other in the country's history.

In recent weeks, the pace of visa revocations has increased. In August, the State Department reported more than 175 thousand canceled visas since the beginning of Trump's second term.

The authorities explain the tightening of measures by the need to ensure national security. Pigott stated that the administration adheres to a zero-tolerance policy toward foreigners who break the law, commit fraud, or pose a threat to US security.

Human rights advocates criticize the actions of the authorities, pointing to risks of violating the right to due process and freedom of speech. Among the controversial decisions are the revocation of visas for foreign participants in pro-Palestinian protests against Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, as well as for foreigners who posted comments about the murder of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk.

In addition, the federal court for the Southern District of California ordered the US Department of State to conduct the DV-2027 Green Card Lottery, registration for which has not yet begun. Following a revision of the schedule, the department must open the application period no later than November 1, and announce the selection results by December 3.
