Modernization of the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint on the Uzbek-Kazakh border is planned to be completed in October

On the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the modernization of the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint is coming to an end. After the renovation, it will become one of the most powerful pedestrian checkpoints in the region.

This was reported by the Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan Madi Takiyev at a meeting of the Kurultai. According to him, they intend to complete the modernization of the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint by the end of October.

Over the past two years, nine checkpoints have been renovated in the country, and this one will be the tenth. It is distinguished by its pedestrian format, as well as construction using sponsorship funds, without drawing on budget money.

After modernization, the capacity will be up to 70 thousand people and 200 buses per day. This should help cope with the growing flow: in the first nine months of 2026 alone, 650 thousand vehicles crossed the border — almost 20% more than a year earlier.

In addition, Zhibek Zholy is being modernized using modern engineering solutions and digital management.
