Mirziyoyev congratulated the national team of Uzbekistan on historical results at the Asian Games

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the country's sports delegation on the results of their performance at the XX Summer Asian Games in Japan. In his address, he called the national team's performance historic and emphasized that the achieved results confirmed that the country's Olympic movement has reached a new level.

The President noted that Uzbekistan became the best among the countries of Central Asia and the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. He also drew attention to a number of historical achievements of Uzbek athletes.

In particular, Abdulvakhob Rashidov brought Uzbekistan its first Asian Games gold in men's karate. Shokhsonam Sherzodova won in the single canoe sprint, and Utkirbek Djuraev became the champion in artistic gymnastics.

Sukhrob Khodjaev won the first-ever Asian Games gold for Uzbekistan in the hammer throw. Barnokhon Sayfullaeva won the high jump competition with a result of 1.90 meters, improving her personal best.

Mirziyoyev separately noted the successes of young athletes. Sharifa Davronova and Abdumalik Khalokov became two-time Asian Games champions, while Takhmina Ikromova won her third championship title in rhythmic gymnastics.

Akbar Djuraev set world and Asian records in weightlifting with a result of 197 kilograms. Vladimir Svechnikov brought Uzbekistan its first-ever Asian Games gold in shooting and simultaneously set a competition record.

Muzaffarbek Turoboyev became the first Asian Games champion to win gold in two weight categories. In total, Uzbek judokas won two golds, two silvers, and three bronzes, taking second place in the team standings after Japan.

In the kurash competitions, representatives of Uzbekistan won four out of six gold medals. Akhror Ziyodullaev, Shokhrukhkhon Bakhtiyorov, Ibodatkhon Agozhonova, and Pokizakhon Kamoldinova became champions.

Mirziyoyev also stated that the results of the Asian Games should become the foundation for preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. According to him, Uzbek athletes must continue preparing for these competitions and fight for new victories.

The national team of Uzbekistan won 21 gold, 25 silver, and 24 bronze medals, taking fifth place in the overall team standings after China, Japan, South Korea, and India.
