Henceforth, Tajik citizens will only be allowed to leave for work abroad upon reaching the age of 18. This is provided for in the new law "On Migration," which sets a minimum age for labor migration for the first time.
According to Article 16 of the law, labor migration is permitted only to countries where the protection of migrants' rights is ensured.
The age restriction also applies to foreign citizens coming to work in Tajikistan.
The new law outlines two main pathways for Tajik citizens to gain employment abroad: the first is searching for work independently, and the second is organized recruitment through agencies and other entities authorized to employ citizens abroad.
If work is sought independently, the authorized state body in the field of migration is obligated to provide citizens with necessary information free of charge. This includes information on job vacancies, salary levels, working conditions, employer requirements, as well as the rules and legislation of the country the citizen plans to visit.
Currently, nearly 350,000 Tajik citizens are in labor migration. The majority of them work in Russia, Kazakhstan, and other CIS countries.
The previous law "On Migration," adopted in 1999, did not set a minimum age for labor migrants. This matter was regulated by the legislation of the receiving country and relevant agreements.
