In Uzbekistan, during the elapsed period of 2026, illegal use of gas and electricity worth 900 billion soums was detected. This was announced by the head of “Uzenergoinspektsiya”, Ahadjon Isokjonov, at a press conference held in Tashkent on November 4, a “Daryo” correspondent reported.
It was stated at the event that over the 10 months, the theft of 144 million cubic meters of gas (441.2 billion soums) and 243.1 million kWh of electricity (459.1 billion soums) was exposed.
“The value of the damage caused to state interests regarding natural gas and electricity amounted to 900 billion soums. So far, nearly 250 billion soums of this has been recovered. Measures are being taken by law enforcement agencies to recover the remaining part,” said the head of the organization.
At the press conference, it was said that the majority of cases of illegal use of natural gas fall on the private sector. In particular, the share of unlawful use of natural gas is significant in greenhouses and compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations. At the same time, knitting factories are also committing violations relatively often.
It was emphasized at the event that punitive measures have been taken against 24 methane filling stations that have stolen gas since the beginning of the year.
It was noted that the quality of oil products, particularly gasoline and diesel, is also under constant monitoring by the inspection.
“In quality control activities, 7,823 tons of oil products were found to be substandard in 330 cases, and their release for sale was prevented,” Ahadjon Isokjonov said.
It was stated that out of the 330 cases identified during quality control, 240 relate to gasoline. The inspections revealed that mostly Ai-92 and Ai-95 grade gasoline turn out to be substandard.
According to the analysis, during the past period, overcharged electricity worth 5.3 billion soums and natural gas worth 19.8 billion soums were recalculated for 283 business entities.
In turn, it was stressed that offenses related to the violation of rules for using energy resources are also frequent among the population. For example, during the elapsed period of this year, 4,629 administrative fines were imposed on citizens.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan exported gas worth $322.3 million in January-August 2026.
