"Inter Miami" forward Lionel Messi has risen to second place in football history for the number of goals scored from free kicks.

"Inter Miami" drew 2:2 at home against "San Diego" in the MLS regular championship. Messi scored a goal from a free kick in this match, bringing his number of such goals to 75. Thus, he surpassed the Brazilian Juninho (74 goals). Cristiano Ronaldo has 64 goals scored from free kicks.

Messi is 39 years old and has been playing for "Inter Miami" since 2023. In Europe, the Argentine footballer played for France's "PSG" and Spain's "Barcelona". With "Barcelona", he won the Champions League four times, and the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup three times each.

The forward is a gold medalist of the 2022 World Cup, a silver medalist of the 2014 and 2026 World Cups, a 2008 Olympic champion, and a two-time winner of the Copa America (2021, 2024). Messi is the record holder for winning the "Ballon d'Or", with the Argentine footballer having won this award eight times.
