Media: US CIA Director Secretly Arrives in Moscow

US Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe has arrived in Moscow for meetings.

According to CBS News, citing informed sources, information about his trip emerged after a US Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft and an American diplomatic motorcade were spotted at a Moscow airport.

US and Russian officials are currently refraining from commenting on the purpose of the visit and the composition of the American delegation.

This trip is considered Ratcliffe's first known visit to Russia as CIA Director, although he has previously maintained contacts with Russian intelligence officials. The CIA has previously been involved in prisoner exchanges, including the April 2025 release of US-Russian citizen Ksenia Karelina, as well as a major exchange in 2024 that resulted in the release of journalist Evan Gershkovich and Marine Corps veteran Paul Whelan. The agency's previous director, William Burns, visited Moscow in November 2021.

The CIA director's visit comes as the US-brokered peace talks in Ukraine have reached a near impasse due to significant disagreements between the parties on key issues.
