The death toll from landslides and floods in Nepal has risen to 903. Reuters has reported on the saving of nearly 1,000 students, while nearly 4,000 people are still missing.

The incident took place in the city of Bidur in the country. The school's accountant's timely warning helped the school evacuate before the disaster struck.

The incident occurred at Tribhuvan Trishuli High School. Principal Rajendra Davadi was teaching a class when the accountant rushed into the room and shouted, "Floods are coming, floods are coming!"

The accountant received the news from a relative in Rasuwa, one of the first areas to be hit by the disaster. The school authorities then immediately suspended classes and began evacuating students. They had only 14 minutes to do so. As students rushed to leave the school, a huge torrent of muddy water rushed down from the upper valley. It swept away entire residential areas in its path.

About 1,000 of the 1,600 students were in the school when the initial warning was issued. Principal Dawadi said at least one student fainted in panic. Parents rushed to the school on motorbikes to pick up their children. Some students were taken to safety by buses, while others walked to higher ground. After about 14 minutes, the last bus managed to cross a nearby bridge.

The school principal said the school was completely destroyed by the flood. It was rebuilt after the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015. The disaster claimed the lives of nearly 9,000 people. The school is located in a narrow strip of land between the Trishuli River and a hydroelectric dam.

The accountant, who saved the lives of nearly 1,000 students, immediately ran home to save his parents. He managed to get his father to the top of a hill. Then he returned to save his mother and was met with a terrible sight: the flood had washed away her house.

Director Rajendra Dawadi said that this educational institution has a long history. Even he himself studied here. The official hopes that the school will be rebuilt as soon as possible, and most importantly, in a safer area.

The number of victims of this natural disaster in Nepal is growing. About four thousand people are reported missing. However, a timely warning prevented hundreds of more children from being added to the list of those killed.
