Kazakhstan presents CryptoCity and Data Center Valley projects to Binance founder
Kazakhstan introduced its CryptoCity and Data Center Valley projects during a meeting in Astana between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. The discussions centered on the growth of Kazakhstan’s digital economy, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and computing infrastructure. As part of the visit, Zhao also toured the Alem.ai International AI Center.
The meeting took place as Kazakhstan continues carrying out measures to expand digitalization and artificial intelligence development in line with instructions from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Members of the Chinese delegation were briefed on projects aimed at strengthening the country’s technological and digital financial infrastructure. These included the CryptoCity concept in Alatau city and the Data Center Valley project.
The CryptoCity initiative is being developed in Alatau as part of Kazakhstan’s plans to introduce and test digital financial solutions. The Data Center Valley project, meanwhile, is aimed at expanding computing and data center infrastructure to support the development of artificial intelligence and other digital technologies. The government described the projects as part of its efforts to establish Kazakhstan as a regional hub for AI and digital infrastructure.
The meeting also featured a presentation on cooperation between Binance Pay and Alatau City Bank. The partnership is part of efforts to introduce digital payment solutions and broaden the use of financial technologies in Kazakhstan. The information released after the meeting did not include details on the scale, timeline or specific services covered by the partnership.
Two memoranda were also signed during Zhao’s visit, including agreements involving Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development and the Astana International Financial Centre. The government did not provide additional details on the specific commitments, investment volumes or implementation timelines under the memoranda.
Kazakh officials said the projects and agreements show a move from building a regulatory and legal framework for the digital sector toward implementing digital financial solutions and developing related infrastructure. Personnel training was also identified as a priority alongside the development of AI, computing capacity and financial technologies.
The meeting is part of Kazakhstan’s wider efforts to develop infrastructure and regulatory mechanisms for artificial intelligence, digital finance and other emerging technologies. The government is also aiming to expand cooperation with international technology and financial companies as it advances projects including Alem.ai, CryptoCity and Data Center Valley.
