Kazakhstan peacekeepers carry out 470 operations in the Golan Heights over four months

Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping contingent completed 470 operational activities in the Golan Heights during its first four months of service with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), the country’s Ministry of Defense said.

September 19 marked four months since Kazakhstan’s third national peacekeeping contingent began serving as part of the UN mission in the Golan Heights. Under the UNDOF mandate, Kazakh peacekeepers patrol their assigned area, monitor the situation and keep quick reaction forces ready for deployment.

The contingent is also sent out when needed to strengthen observation posts, evacuate UN personnel and escort UN representatives and cargo. From June to September, the contingent’s explosive ordnance disposal team found and destroyed 350 explosive items. The team also disposed of 1,800 rounds of small arms ammunition during that time.

In total, Kazakh peacekeepers conducted 470 operational activities over the four-month period. These included 379 patrols and the setting up of 49 temporary nighttime observation posts.

The contingent also carried out 11 quick reaction force drills and held 11 meetings with representatives of local communities. Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping contingent continues to perform its duties in the Golan Heights under the UNDOF mandate.
