The Sanitary-Epidemiological Committee of Uzbekistan is monitoring the situation in Russia's Irkutsk Oblast following the death of a 27-year-old woman, which is linked to a possible case of plague. A quarantine has been introduced at the hospital where the patient was admitted.

Recently, reports of a possible case of an especially dangerous infectious disease in the Irkutsk Oblast appeared in social media and news outlets. In particular, the cause of the woman's death is linked to a possible case of plague. Following the woman's death, the hospital was closed for quarantine, and those who had been in contact with her were isolated and placed under medical observation. Specialists are establishing the cause of death and the nature of the infection.

The Sanitary-Epidemiological Committee of Uzbekistan reported that it is monitoring the situation in cooperation with the competent authorities of Russia and official representatives of the World Health Organization.

The agency specified that it is investigating whether the diagnosis has been laboratory-confirmed, the potential sources and transmission routes of the infection, the patient's travel route, as well as the circle of people who had contact with her. Meanwhile, the readiness of services in the territory of Uzbekistan has been strengthened in case of the import and spread of the infection.

The Sanitary-Epidemiological Committee urged citizens not to trust unverified reports and to follow information only through official sources. If the situation changes, the authorities promise to provide additional updates.

Earlier, specialists recorded activity in a natural plague focus on the border between Russia and Mongolia.
