Indian Medical Chains Seek to Open Clinics in Uzbekistan
Major Indian hospital chains, including Apollo Hospitals, have shown interest in opening clinics in Uzbekistan, Health Minister Eldor Adilov told journalists on 30 August 2026 during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Uzbekistan.
The minister said that more than 10 joint projects are already under way with India, and that five more prospective initiatives were set to begin during the Indian delegation's visit. Most of these projects are centered on the pharmaceutical industry, particularly the domestic production and localization of medicines in Uzbekistan.
The new projects are intended for implementation in Tashkent and in regional areas as well. During the visit, the two sides held talks on specific initiatives in the Andijan and Surkhandarya regions.
Another major area of bilateral cooperation is the development of healthcare infrastructure. Adilov said that leading Indian healthcare providers, including Apollo, have expressed a wish to establish medical institutions in Uzbekistan.
The minister named oncology and cardiology as the main fields of medical cooperation with India. In the pharmaceutical sector, plans were made to launch the Ankavel enterprise, which will focus on the production and localization of oncology drugs.
Adilov also highlighted proton therapy, an advanced treatment method for oncological diseases, as a promising area of cooperation. He said the technology is already used in India and is included in Uzbekistan's long-term plans, although its introduction is not part of the current project phase.
During the state visit, the two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Ayurveda and other traditional medicine practices.
