India and Uzbekistan expand cooperation in the agricultural sector
Indian Foreign Secretary Sibi George spoke about India-Uzbekistan cooperation in seed production, drip irrigation, and horticulture.
India and Uzbekistan are deepening their partnership in the agricultural sector.
Cooperation between India and Uzbekistan in the agricultural sector is rapidly developing, with a particular focus on seed production, drip irrigation systems, and horticulture. This was stated by Sibi George, Secretary (Western) of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, at a press briefing on the results of the Indian Prime Minister's state visit to Uzbekistan.
According to George, the two countries are exploring opportunities for joint work in seed production, the introduction of drip irrigation technologies, and the development of horticulture. Collaboration in these areas is being conducted between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture of Uzbekistan.
"We are collaborating with the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture to develop a mutual partnership," Sibi George emphasized.
The diplomat also noted that the Indian Minister of Agriculture was part of the Prime Minister's delegation during his visit to Uzbekistan.
According to a joint statement by the two leaders following the talks, economic cooperation encompasses, among other things, agriculture and the food industry. These sectors, along with mineral resources, textiles, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals, were identified as priorities for increasing trade turnover. The parties set a goal of reaching $5 billion in trade turnover by 2030.
