India and Uzbekistan are preparing a uranium deal.

India and Uzbekistan are on the verge of concluding a long-term uranium supply agreement, which is expected to be signed in the near future. This was announced by Sibi George, Secretary (Western Affairs) of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, at a press briefing on the results of the Indian Prime Minister's state visit to Uzbekistan.

According to George, significant progress was made during bilateral talks toward establishing a long-term mechanism for uranium supplies to India. He emphasized that the parties are "nearing the signing of the agreement in the very near future." These efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

A memorandum of understanding aimed at developing cooperation in the mining sector was also signed during the visit. The diplomat noted that this document will facilitate interaction on critical minerals, including uranium. Sibi George mentioned that two business forums involving mining companies from both countries have already been held this year, demonstrating significant commercial interest in developing partnerships with Uzbekistan in this area.

Furthermore, Sibi George reported that the parties are discussing plans to exchange delegations to expeditiously implement the provisions of the memorandum. Thanks to the established institutional framework and the active participation of business communities, significant progress in the mining sector is expected to be achieved in the coming months.
