According to the minister, the necessary industrial environment for the production of aviation equipment is taking shape in the country.
"Within two years, we will be able to have a civilian aircraft manufactured in India," Naidu said.
At the same time, he did not provide detailed information about the joint venture expected to implement the project. The aircraft model, capacity, partner companies, and the share of local parts in production were also not disclosed.
Therefore, the statement signifies the goal of establishing aircraft production in the country. There is currently no clear information on whether it will be an entirely new, independently developed aircraft.
Naidu also touched upon the demand in the Indian aviation market. According to his data, domestic airlines have ordered more than 1,600 aircraft with a total value of nearly $100 billion.
Currently, there are 165 airports in the country. The fleet of Indian airlines consists of approximately 850 aircraft.
More than 100 new airports are expected to open in the next decade.
The government is also considering the possibility of manufacturing aviation engines within the country. However, the minister noted that establishing such production capacities would take considerable time.
