From 200 to 1,000 passengers per hour: Andijan airport is being prepared for a new stage of development
After reconstruction, Andijan International Airport will be able to serve five times more passengers per hour. Its capacity will increase from 200 to 1,000 people, and in the future, the annual passenger traffic is planned to reach 3.5 million.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during his trip to the Andijan region, familiarized himself with the progress of the airport's modernization.
The cost of the airfield complex reconstruction project is 1.1 trillion soums. In the first stage, the airfield infrastructure was updated. The runway was extended to 3.3 km, and a new one with a width of 60 meters was built. It meets the requirements of category 4E.
In addition, new taxiways and parking stands for 10 aircraft were created. Now the airport is capable of receiving large wide-body airliners.
A cement concrete pavement with a service life of up to 50 years was laid on the runway. A German light signaling system was also installed. It makes it possible to receive aircraft at night and in fog. Landing is possible with visibility down to 300 meters.
New terminal will increase capacity fivefold
Currently, the second stage of reconstruction is underway. A two-story terminal with an area of almost 19.7 thousand square meters is being built at the airport.
After its commissioning, the airport will be able to serve up to 1,000 passengers per hour. There will also be high-speed Wi-Fi and smart services here.
Currently, seven airlines operate regular domestic and international flights from Andijan. Their number is planned to be increased from 808 to 2,500 per year.
The concept of further development of the airport was presented to the head of state. The President instructed the responsible officials to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the terminal construction.
The development of service facilities near the airport is also envisaged. The modernization is expected to increase the transport accessibility of the region and expand its tourism and economic opportunities.
