In Uzbekistan, penalties for violence against children have been toughened
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law that increases accountability for crimes against children. The document introduces amendments to five codes and six laws at once.
Under the new regulations, liability for violence against children will apply to all perpetrators, including employees of educational institutions and family members. In cases of crimes resulting in the death of a child, mitigating circumstances will not be applied.
Special attention in the law is paid to crimes against the sexual integrity of minors. For sexual violence against children under the age of 14, the law provides for punishment up to 25 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
Additionally, the statute of limitations for such crimes is abolished, allowing perpetrators to be brought to justice regardless of how much time has passed since the crime was committed.
The new measures are aimed at strengthening the legal protection of children and toughening penalties for attempts on their life, health, and dignity.
