In Uzbekistan, another 18 waste landfills will cease operations in 2026

In Uzbekistan, another 18 waste landfills are planned to be closed in 2026, covering a total area of 80.35 hectares. This was reported by the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency.

To achieve this, 29 new waste transfer stations will be established in the country's regions. Their launch will make it possible to decommission the landfills and reduce their total number.

Currently, there are 200 municipal solid waste landfills in Uzbekistan. Their total area is 1.649 thousand hectares.

In 2026, the reclamation of 18 landfills in 11 regions is also planned. In these areas, waste will be organized, covered with a layer of soil, and the land plots will be restored.

At the same time, four landfills have already been fully reclaimed in 2026. They are located in the Namangan, Fergana, and Tashkent regions. Their total area is 6.61 hectares, and the operations of these facilities have been ceased.

According to presidential decree No. UP-21 dated February 16, 2026, the number of municipal solid waste landfills must be reduced by at least 50% by 2030. In 2026, this figure is planned to reach 27%.

In 2027–2029, the reclamation of another 28 landfills with a total area of 148.35 hectares is also scheduled.
