In Turkey, a man was arrested for creating an image of Erdogan using artificial intelligence

In the Turkish capital of Ankara, 53-year-old Mehmet Cakmak was detained due to images prepared using artificial intelligence. He placed his own image alongside those of the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Justice Akin Gurlek, and shared them on his WhatsApp profile.

Attempted to create the impression of having connections with officials

According to investigations conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect is suspected of attempting to present himself as a person with close connections and influence with high-ranking officials through this action.

The man was detained at his home in the Kecioren district of Ankara. It was revealed that Mehmet Cakmak had previously been convicted of four separate crimes.

The official statement issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office reads:

"It was determined that the suspect Mehmet Cakmak published photos with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Justice Akin Gurlek, presumed to have been created using artificial intelligence, along with his own photo in his WhatsApp status."

Currently, an investigation is being conducted against him under the articles of attempting to exert influence and disseminating false information that causes panic or confusion among the population.
