An Armenian woman who slapped her husband in the US has been deported
Arpine Misakyan, a 28-year-old tourist from Armenia, was arrested after an altercation with her husband at a restaurant in Las Vegas, USA. Although the prosecutor's office declined to file domestic violence charges against her, she was held in an immigration detention center for nearly three months and was later deported from the US.
According to reports, the incident occurred on April 6 at the Encore Las Vegas hotel. Misakyan and her family, who had traveled from Southern California, were staying at the Bellagio hotel and went to The Buffet at Wynn restaurant for dinner.
According to police reports, during an argument that arose over a phone, Misakyan slapped her husband in the face. This incident was captured on the hotel's surveillance cameras. Hotel staff called the police, and the woman was detained on suspicion of domestic violence.
At the scene, Misakyan's blood pressure rose, and she experienced difficulty breathing. For this reason, she was carried out of the hotel on a stretcher and taken to a hospital. Later, she was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
The woman's husband, Karen Arutyunyan, stated that this was a simple family disagreement and asked for his wife to be released. However, the police stated that, relying on Nevada state laws, they had the authority to keep her in custody under such a charge.
Later, the Clark County District Attorney's Office declined to file domestic violence charges. Despite this, Misakyan remained in ICE custody. According to media reports, at that time, her application for asylum in the US was still under review.
The woman was initially held at a detention facility in the city of Henderson, then transferred to an immigration center in Adelanto. ICE representatives stated that Misakyan agreed to leave the country voluntarily. Nearly three months after her arrest, on July 4, she was deported to Armenia.
