Visa may be revoked in the US for traveling to give birth to a child
The US Embassy in Tajikistan warned of the consequences of traveling to the country to give birth to a child and obtain American citizenship for them. Using a tourist visa for this purpose is prohibited. Violation of the rules may result in visa revocation and complications during future trips to the US.
The diplomatic mission noted that giving birth to a child in order to obtain US citizenship for them cannot be the primary purpose of a trip on a tourist visa.
This practice is known as "birth tourism." The US Department of State also points out that tourist visas are not issued for trips with this purpose.
At the same time, the warning does not mean an entry ban for all pregnant women. It specifically concerns trips whose main purpose is giving birth to obtain American citizenship for the child.
