A dedicated lane for micromobility vehicles has been launched as a pilot project in the city of Tashkent. This project was implemented on a 2.4-kilometer section of Lutfiy Street.
This lane is designed for the movement of bicycles, electric scooters, electric mopeds, and other micromobility vehicles.
Experts note that in the absence of dedicated infrastructure for micromobility vehicles, they are forced to share space with cars on the roadway and with pedestrians on sidewalks. This can create discomfort and danger among various road users.
The pilot project on Lutfiy Street made it possible to practically assess the possibilities of creating dedicated infrastructure for micromobility vehicles. According to preliminary results, it was noted that the lane is convenient and understandable for users.
In future projects, special attention will also be paid to increasing the safety of such lanes. Depending on road conditions, it is planned to physically separate micromobility lanes from car traffic using delineators, dividers, and other protective elements.
Based on the results of the pilot project, specialists from the Road Traffic Organization Center are also studying other streets and areas of the capital where such a solution can be applied.
It is noted that the experiment on Lutfiy Street could serve as a basis for the gradual development of micromobility infrastructure in Tashkent.
