In Sirdaryo, MIA officers attempted to groundlessly take a citizen away from their home

Citizen D.A. from the Sirdaryo region appealed to the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of internal affairs body officers.

According to the appeal, internal affairs body officers, led by a prevention inspector, arrived at one of the homes in the Khavast district and attempted to take away the appellant's spouse. The appellant stated that the officers did not explain the reasons for these actions and did not present the relevant documents.

The appeal was taken under control by the Ombudsman, and the allegations made in it were studied by the Ombudsman's regional representative in the Sirdaryo region and sent with a control letter to the Sirdaryo Region Internal Affairs Department to provide a legal assessment of the actions of the internal affairs body officers.

According to the received information, a service investigation was ordered against certain officers of the Khavast District Department of Internal Affairs, and based on its results, disciplinary sanctions of "reprimand" and "warning" were applied to 4 officers for deficiencies identified in their service activities.

Additionally, the issue of giving a final assessment to the actions of one officer was referred to the Disciplinary Council.

In early August, videos circulated on social networks showing a woman causing a dispute and an MIA officer using force against a girl, pinning her to the ground, which sparked discussions. According to Article 22 of the Law "On Internal Affairs Bodies," if non-violent methods do not ensure the fulfillment of the duties imposed on an internal affairs body officer, they have the right to use physical force in the following cases: to suppress crimes and administrative offenses; to bring persons who have committed crimes or administrative offenses to the nearest internal affairs body or other law enforcement agency and to detain these persons; to overcome resistance to the lawful demands of an internal affairs body officer.
