In South Korea, four Uzbek citizens are under suspicion of aiding a terrorist organization.

South Korean police have detained one Uzbek citizen and are investigating the involvement of three others in financing and providing material support to the Syrian organization Katiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad (KTJ).

Yonhap News Agency reports the arrests. According to investigators, one of the suspects transferred 6.3 million won (approximately $4,600) in cryptocurrency to KTJ. He is also suspected of using cryptocurrency received from KTJ to purchase 11 used cars and two excavators worth a total of 170 million won. This equipment was subsequently shipped to Syria.

The main suspect, a man in his 30s, was placed on Interpol's wanted list and detained in April. He is currently in custody awaiting trial. Police allege that three other Uzbek citizens assisted him in finding and purchasing the cars. They are being held without detention.

Police also established that the main suspect maintained contact with his younger brother, who, according to investigators, is a member of KTJ. However, law enforcement officials did not establish the suspect's official membership in the organization.

Earlier in Uzbekistan, a 31-year-old citizen was sentenced to 10 years in prison for financing terrorist organizations and attempting to join militants in Syria.
