Man caught in terrorism plot sentenced to 10 years in prison
An Uzbek citizen who was influenced by radical propaganda on social media and communicated with and financed individuals associated with terrorist organizations has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
A person caught in the trap of terrorism was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
A citizen born in 1995 in the Kashkadarya region entered one of the prestigious universities of the Republic of South Korea in 2017.
According to information, while studying abroad, he followed audio and video materials of individuals promoting various ideas on social networks. He also began to show a tendency to radical ideas under the influence of videos depicting armed conflicts in Syria.
Later, he began to communicate with individuals associated with the terrorist organizations "Secretary of Monotheism and Jihad" and "Secretary of the Strange" operating in Syria via Instagram and Telegram, and distributed materials related to them.
The citizen, who remained in South Korea even after graduating from university, believed the calls made by the media blogger of the terrorist organization "Secretary of the Strange" on the Internet and sent him money.
In December 2023, he returned to Uzbekistan. In July 2024, he went to Turkey to join the ranks of militants in Syria, but failed to carry out his plan and returned.
As a result of an operational operation conducted by law enforcement agencies, the citizen was detained and a criminal case was initiated against him.
By court verdict, he was found guilty of committing crimes under Articles 244¹, 244², 155² and 155³ of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
