In six months, the tuition fees of more than 11,000 female master's students were covered by the state

In the first half of 2026 in Uzbekistan, the tuition fees of more than 11,000 women studying in master's programs were paid from the state budget. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov during a meeting in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on September 15.

The government representative presented a report to the parliament on the six-month execution of the state budget. It was noted that during the six months, a total of 75.5 billion soums was allocated for the tuition fees of more than 11,000 female master's students. For comparison, during the same period in 2025, such subsidies amounted to 48 billion soums.

"In addition, interest-free educational loans worth 88 billion soums were allocated to nearly seven thousand women, and preferential educational loans worth 26 billion soums were allocated to about 1.8 thousand students," the minister said.

Jamshid Kuchkarov stated that during the half-year, 6.3 trillion soums, or 12.7 percent of education expenditures, were directed to the higher education sector. Of this, 2.1 trillion soums were spent on secondary specialized and vocational education, and 3.6 trillion soums on higher education.

"At the same time, in order to improve the quality of vocational education, 72 billion soums were allocated for the introduction of international educational programs in 14 technical schools. During the reporting period, the number of student dormitories in state higher education institutions reached 386, their capacity exceeded 156,000, covering 57 percent of students in need of accommodation. Subsidies worth 182 billion soums were allocated for the construction of student dormitories, supporting private partners, and covering rental expenses," said the government representative.

According to the analysis, the higher education enrollment rate in the country has reached 44 percent, and the number of students has reached 1.6 million.
