Latvia proposed to restrict the issuance of visas to citizens of Uzbekistan after a series of crimes

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia has initiated a proposal to temporarily suspend the issuance of visas to citizens of Uzbekistan. The move was prompted by several criminal incidents which, according to the ministry, were committed by citizens of Uzbekistan after their arrival in the country, including crimes against minors.

"We are obliged to act. Therefore, we propose to suspend the issuance of visas to citizens of Uzbekistan for a certain period and use this time to cooperate with the Uzbek side," said Minister of Internal Affairs Jānis Dombrava.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs expects that during the period of the potential restriction, it will be possible to establish information exchange and strengthen checks on citizens planning to travel to Latvia.

For now, the issue has not been included in the Cabinet of Ministers' agenda, as coalition partners did not support its consideration. However, the ministry hopes that the initiative will be discussed at the next government meeting.

, that two citizens of Uzbekistan will stand trial in Latvia in a case involving the killing of a swan.
