In Jizzakh, a daughter-in-law was allegedly forced to eat cockroach poison and drink toilet water. The woman from Jizzakh got married in October 2025 and has a five-month-old daughter. In May 2026, her husband was imprisoned. After this, the woman, along with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, went to visit her husband. During the meeting, the daughter-in-law told her husband that she was being pressured by his family members, and that gold jewelry had been bought on credit in her name and pawned. On June 30, on the way back from the prison, her sisters-in-law confiscated the daughter-in-law's passport, phone, and her child's birth certificate. On July 6, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law rented an apartment and began keeping the daughter-in-law captive there. This was "punishment" for telling her husband about the credit and gold situations. The woman was restricted from food and water, being given only a single piece of bread a day.

"They regularly beat her, choked her, hit her head against the wall, and kicked her in the stomach and uterus. One of the sisters-in-law constantly guarded the daughter-in-law and did not allow her to leave her room. They beat the daughter-in-law from time to time, sometimes filming these acts, and threatened to kill her and her family. They claimed they had obtained a certificate from a psychiatric hospital and that no one could do anything to them.

While being held by force, the daughter-in-law was given a single piece of bread and allowed to use the toilet once a day. They forced her to eat cockroach poison and drink toilet water. On August 27, her sister-in-law named Rukhshona beat her, tore all her clothes, broke her jewelry, and forced her to throw them in the trash. To avoid being caught on camera, she forced her to take the stairs instead of the elevator," the report says.

On August 29, the sister-in-law came and asked the daughter-in-law, "If I pour hot water on you, will you burn?" A few minutes after the woman answered "yes," she poured boiling water on her. Then, she added salt and baking soda to the boiling water and burned the woman again.

On September 6, the woman found an opportunity to leave the apartment. She went down from the third floor via the fire escape, asked people on the street for help in calling a taxi, and called her father. They went to the hospital together. The woman was hospitalized in serious condition. However, they told her that the forensic medical examination would be conducted after she was discharged from the hospital. The Ministry of Internal Affairs' Department for Women's Issues announced that a case had been initiated regarding the situation under Articles 109 and 110 of the Criminal Code. However, the daughter-in-law's father is unaware of this and said that no one has contacted him so far. He demands that those who committed violence against his daughter be subjected to the harshest punishment within the limits of the law.
