In China, a couple who left their daughter in the care of a nanny for 13 years has been deprived of their parental status

In China's Shanxi province, a court has deprived a couple of their parental rights after they left their daughter in the care of a nanny for 13 years. The woman who raised the child was recognized as her official guardian, writes Wccdaily.

The girl was born in 2012. Shortly after, her parents hired a nanny surnamed Zhang to care for her. In 2014, stating that they could not care for the child themselves, they asked the nanny to temporarily take the girl to her home in Shanxi.

Despite the nanny's multiple attempts to return the girl to her parents, they refused to take the child back. Until 2017, the couple occasionally sent money for their daughter's expenses. However, according to court documents, they later stopped payments entirely and showed almost no interest in their daughter's life.

Due to the lack of legally required registration, the girl could not register her place of residence for 13 years, lacked full official status at school, and was left without social insurance. As a result, she could not even complete the official procedures required to take high school entrance exams.

After the nanny approached the prosecutor's office, her claim was supported. The court found that the girl had lived with Zhang for many years, regarded Zhang's family as her own, and wished to remain there.

Thus, the biological parents were deprived of their guardianship rights, and the nanny was appointed as the girl's official guardian. Following this, local authorities assisted the girl in obtaining the necessary official documents.

In addition, the father and mother were found guilty of child abandonment and sentenced to six months of correctional supervision.
