«I'm the best right now» – Kane received the «Ballon d'Or» with emotion
Harry Kane has become a «Ballon d'Or» winner for the first time in his career. The 33-year-old Bayern striker was deservedly rewarded for a brilliant season in which he scored a total of 73 goals for his club and national team. Now his friends, teammates, and many other celebrities are congratulating him. Crown Prince William of Great Britain did not stay aside either. However, there are also those who were dissatisfied with the award being given to him: for example, the uncle of Lamine Yamal, who took third place according to the voting results, criticized the award.
According to the voting results, Kane surpassed Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona winger Yamal to become the first English footballer to win the «Ballon d'Or» in the last 25 years. Before him, the last representative of England to be deemed worthy of this award was Michael Owen (2001).
Harry received the trophy at the Palladium Theatre in London from two-time winner of this award, the Brazilian Ronaldo. As he took the stage, his hands were trembling – it was clear how precious these moments were for him. Kane expressed his gratitude to the organizers, the journalists who voted for him, and his teammates at Bayern and the England national team. He made special mention of Vincent Kompany, wishing him a speedy recovery (the Munich head coach was recently admitted to the hospital). He also thanked Thomas Tuchel, head coach of the England national team (under whose leadership the English won bronze medals at the 2026 World Cup).
The forward did not forget Tottenham, where he started his career, either. But the most emotional part of his speech was dedicated to his loved ones: Kane recalled kicking a ball on the street with his brother Charlie in childhood and expressed gratitude to his parents for their support. He also addressed his wife Kate, with whom he has shared many moments – they have known each other since school.
«My wife is my best friend. We have gone through ups and downs together. You are my main support. I think you wanted this award even more than I did. You have always sacrificed yourself so that my dreams would come true. Today we celebrate this award together. With you. I love you,» the striker said.
Shortly after the ceremony, Kane posted on his social media page: «Keep working in silence. Let success be your noise».
Some fans saw these words as a subtle hint at Yamal and Mbappe, his main rivals for the «Ballon d'Or», who had been openly insisting over recent weeks that they deserved the award.
