Activities of an illegal call center involving foreigners shut down in Tashkent

The activities of an illegal call center in Tashkent, alleged to have engaged in fraud with the aim of seizing clients' property, have been halted. According to law enforcement agencies, the center's participants included foreign citizens residing in the country illegally.

During a special operation conducted in the Yakkasaroy district, 23 foreign citizens illegally residing in Uzbekistan were identified.

As revealed from video material provided by law enforcement agencies, suspicions arose following a conversation between an officer and an individual leaving the house where the call center was located. During the conversation, a bribe of 1,000 dollars was offered to him. The officer refused to accept the money and reported the suspicious activity.

When the residential premises were inspected in the presence of witnesses, it was discovered that there were four to five individuals in each room. In total, 23 foreign citizens were inside the building.

The special operation was carried out by officers of the Cybercrime Department of the Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs. As physical evidence, 80 mobile phones, 21 laptops, six Wi-Fi routers, and 22 passports were seized.

In addition, law enforcement agencies also identified transactions related to crypto-assets. According to preliminary data, three foreign citizens carried out purchase and sale transactions of crypto-assets several times through online exchanges without obtaining the relevant license.

The total volume of transactions amounted to 27,910.21 USDT. In the initial video material, their value was indicated as "329 million 16 million soums". However, due to the lack of clarity in this expression, it is impossible to establish a reliable amount in the national currency based on the provided data.

Regarding this situation, a criminal case has been initiated by the investigation department under the Coordination Department of Internal Affairs of the Yakkasaroy District under the relevant paragraphs of part two of Article 278⁸ of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.

Preliminary investigative actions are currently ongoing.
