“If you are not ready, leave the country!”: Medvedev said control over migrants will be strengthened

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev announced that control measures over migrants will be strengthened starting from 2027.

Medvedev stated that the number of migrants is increasing in some regions.

“First of all, the concentration of migrants in large agglomerations rightfully worries our citizens. This is often due to the fact that they arrive with their family members, have a low level of knowledge of the Russian language, do not want to comply with our norms and traditions, as well as their illegal actions. Some of these crimes have a very serious resonance,” Medvedev said.

He said that starting from January 2027, foreign workers must support themselves and their families at a level not less than the subsistence minimum. In this case, the regional coefficient will also be taken into account.

“If the tax authorities do not confirm that the migrant has an income or find that their income does not correspond to the established amount, the migrant's patent or work permit will be canceled. Also, they and their family members will be deprived of the right to stay in Russia.”

Medvedev stated that control in the field of migration will be strengthened, including on their biometric data and genome. He also said that foreigners are now required to undergo a medical examination within 30 days not only for dangerous infectious diseases, but also for the presence of drug use.

“Amendments have been made to the Law on Citizenship. The list of grounds for revoking acquired citizenship will be significantly expanded. The position on this is clear: if you came to work — respect our customs, comply with Russian legislation. If you are not ready, leave the country!”, Medvedev concluded.

For reference, new legal amendments for foreigners came into force in Russia starting from September 1. Now, foreigners who want to stay in the country for more than 90 days must undergo a medical examination for HIV (AIDS) and drug addiction. This rule applies to all persons who arrived for work, study, and other purposes.

They must obtain a special certificate within one month after crossing the border. Subsequently, this process is repeated annually. Otherwise, a fine of up to 50 thousand rubles (up to 7 million soums) will be imposed.
