How to register the purchase and sale of a car in Uzbekistan in 2026

Starting April 1, 2026, the procedure for paying for cars no older than ten years has changed in Uzbekistan: transactions have become cashless. Here is how to choose and inspect a car, draw up a sales contract, what documents will be required, and how much you will have to pay.

How to execute a car sale and purchase in Uzbekistan in 2026

When buying and selling category M, N, O, and G motor vehicles that are no more than ten years old from their manufacture date, as well as special vehicles, settlements are made in a non-cash form.

The buyer does not hand money to the seller directly in cash. Instead, payment is processed through a bank using an escrow mechanism. The bank confirms to the notary the availability of funds and, after the contract is certified, transfers them to the seller.

One escrow account is provided for each sale and purchase agreement. However, this does not always mean that the buyer needs to open a new bank account.

The bank may use the buyer’s existing account, bank card, or electronic wallet, provided they are suitable for settlement under escrow rules.

To complete the setup, the buyer contacts a bank and concludes a corresponding agreement. An application can also be submitted electronically if the bank provides such an option.

What if the money is in cash

It can be deposited at a bank cash desk. After this, the payment for the car will still be considered non-cash.

Once the required amount is placed in the account, the bank will notify the notary. After certifying the agreement, the notary will send an electronic confirmation of the transaction to the bank.

When the seller receives the money

If the bank receives confirmation from the notary during the business day, the money will be transferred the same day. If confirmation arrives after the end of the banking business day, the transfer will be completed on the next business day.

If the deal falls through

If the notary has not certified the agreement, the buyer can contact the bank to request a refund of the money from the escrow account. The conditions for refunding bank service fees should be clarified separately.
