Hot tea and inhalation — recommendations to help overcome a runny nose faster
There can be many causes of a cold: ARVI and other infections, seasonal allergies, hormonal changes, or sharp changes in air temperature. However, this does not matter — regardless of the cause, there are simple ways to get rid of the problem. Some of them only help temporarily, while others help to cure a runny nose quickly and permanently, writes Lifehacker.
**Drink hot tea**
Most importantly, it should not be scalding. Heat and steam increase blood circulation in the nasal cavity. As a result, the runny nose decreases, and breathing becomes easier.
**Drink as much fluid as possible**
Taking the above point into account, if the liquid is warm, the effect will be even stronger. But water at room temperature is also beneficial. Because if there is a lack of water in the body, the nose also gets congested. The mucus in the nasal cavity dries up, thickens, and this leads to nasal congestion. In addition, in such a state, viruses and bacteria feel free, meaning the illness may be prolonged or it may become harder to get rid of the cold.
**Do inhalation**
Inhalation significantly reduces cold symptoms, including a general runny nose, and shortens the duration of the illness.
Clean water is heated in a container. It does not have to be boiled; it is enough for steam to appear over the liquid.
Place the container of water on a table or other comfortable horizontal surface and hold your face over it for 20-30 minutes.
Breathe deeply through the nose. Try to exhale with force to get rid of phlegm.
A few drops of essential oil can be added to the water for breathing.
**Take a hot shower**
Like inhalation or hot tea, a shower also effectively stops a runny nose and relieves nasal congestion.
**Apply a warm compress to the nose**
**Rinse the nose with saline water**
You can buy a ready-made salt aerosol from a pharmacy or prepare it at home. The recipe is simple: add ½ teaspoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda to one glass (240 ml) of warm water. Rinse the nose with this solution 3-4 times a day until the unpleasant symptoms completely disappear.
**Use nasal sprays or drops**
As a result, the nose will not run, and it will be possible to breathe freely through it. This magical effect usually lasts for several hours, after which the process needs to be repeated. It should be kept in mind: such remedies should not be used for more than 3 days.
**Consult a doctor**
A runny nose is not a separate disease, but only a symptom. To get rid of it completely, it is necessary to overcome the illness that caused it. This is most effectively done under the supervision of a professional general practitioner or an ENT specialist.
