In Tashkent, tombstones were damaged during construction work at the Botkin Cemetery. Reports appeared on social media suggesting that the incident might have occurred as early as October 18, with some videos shot on October 21.

The Tashkent Khokimiyat confirmed in a statement that during construction work on the grounds of a former champagne winery, a wall separating the site from the cemetery collapsed. As a result, several tombstones in the last row of Sector 15 were damaged. The graves themselves were not disturbed.

"The Tashkent City Khokimiyat and the City Improvement Department have taken the situation under control. Construction work conducted with violations has been halted, and the responsible parties have been identified. A legal assessment will be given to the circumstances of the incident and the actions of those responsible. The perpetrators will be held accountable in accordance with the established procedure," the statement reads.

"We understand the pain and outrage of the relatives. Respect for the memory of the deceased and the feelings of their loved ones must be absolute," the administration noted.

The developer and the contracting organization have been ordered to restore the damaged tombstones by the end of the week.
