Gas cylinder explodes in shopping mall in Egypt, killing at least 10 people (video)

Three people were killed and 17 others injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a shopping mall in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, Khaleej Times reported.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health reported the tragedy that occurred on the evening of August 13. According to the Ministry of Interior, a helium cylinder exploded in a gift shop on the first floor of the Arabella Plaza Mall in Cairo's Fifth District. The explosion caused a fire inside the store. Officials said the fire was under control.

The explosion and fire damaged the facades of some nearby stores. At the same time, a security source denied reports circulating on the Internet that an elevator had collapsed in the mall.

Eight ambulances were sent to the scene after receiving information about the incident. 11 of the injured were taken to New Cairo Specialized Hospital. Six others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Ministry of Health said the injured were being closely monitored. The statement also said that the readiness of nearby medical facilities had been increased.

Earlier, it was reported that a powerful explosion had occurred at a munitions factory in Italy. Police and firefighters were at the scene of the explosion when it happened.
