From locomotive modernization to mineral processing. What Mirziyoyev discussed with Wabtec and Traxys
Uzbekistan discussed with American companies Wabtec and Traxys the supply of locomotives with long-term maintenance, the creation of a service center for mining equipment, as well as projects for the deep processing of critical minerals and the production of industrial products. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the executives of the companies on October 19.
At the meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Wabtec, Rafael Santana, the discussion focused on updating and expanding the locomotive fleet, taking into account the development of the country's railway infrastructure and transit potential.
The parties considered the option of supplying locomotives with long-term service maintenance with the participation of US financial institutions. They also discussed the organization of technical maintenance for railway equipment in Uzbekistan, the production of components, and personnel training.
Another area of cooperation could be the creation of a service center for mining equipment of mining enterprises. The meeting participants also touched upon cooperation in the field of diesel generator units.
During talks with the Chief Executive Officer of Traxys, Mark Kristoff, main attention was paid to critical minerals and the deep processing of raw materials. The parties discussed joint projects for the production of industrial products with high added value using American technologies.
As noted at the meeting, over the past year, cooperation with Traxys has reached a new level: contract agreements were concluded, and a regional office of the company opened in Tashkent — the first in Central Asia.
Traxys specializes in the supply of critical raw materials and minerals, and is also engaged in their procurement, logistics, financing, and marketing. The company operates in more than 20 countries.
