French Specialists Restore Artifacts from the Romanov Palace Collection in Tashkent

From October 6 to 30, the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan hosted the first restoration mission of French experts, aimed at preserving and restoring historical and artistic objects from the Romanov Palace collection.

During the mission, 9 specialists from France worked in two main areas. A team of 5 experts led by Delphine Elie-Lefebvre restored 7 pieces of furniture from the historical collection.

In parallel, a team of 4 experts led by Patricia Vergez-Libail restored 4 paintings from the same collection, as well as their frames.

The mission aims to preserve the historical and artistic values of the Romanov Palace, ensure their authenticity, and strengthen international cooperation in the field of restoration.

The Romanov Palace has been closed for restoration since 2021. In May of this year, a public outcry erupted around the site after a private fashion show was held on its grounds. At the time, residents and activists criticized the use of the architectural monument for a commercial event while it remains inaccessible to visitors.

Later, the Art and Culture Development Foundation explained that the show took place only on the adjacent grounds and did not affect the interior of the palace. The agency also stated that after the restoration is completed, the site will open to visitors as a modern museum space.
