Freedom of Uzbek recruited into Russian army restricted for 5 years

The Fergana City Criminal Court has sentenced a man to death for participating in military operations in Ukraine as part of the Russian Armed Forces.

An Uzbek citizen recruited into the Russian army was sentenced to 5 years of restriction of liberty.

The Fergana City Criminal Court has sentenced F.Q., a citizen of Uzbekistan, who was recruited into the Russian Armed Forces to participate in military operations in Ukraine. F.Q., born in 2002, was found guilty of part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code (recruitment).

According to court documents, F.Q. left for Russia in 2020 to work. In September 2025, he was recruited as a serviceman to a military unit in the Donetsk region of the Russian Ministry of Defense. There, he underwent military and physical training in shooting weapons, throwing grenades, and providing first aid.

According to the defendant's testimony, he signed a document while in a penal institution in Russia and then learned that he was being recruited to participate in the war against Ukraine as part of the Russian Armed Forces. After undergoing military training in Donetsk, he was hospitalized due to health problems. After leaving the hospital, he contacted the Uzbek consular institution and returned to the country.

During the investigation and trial, Instagram correspondence on his phone was also examined as evidence. It was noted that he had sent photos of himself in military uniform and with weapons to another person.

The court found F.Q.'s actions to be correctly qualified under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code. The verdict noted that he had undergone military training and enlisted in the Russian Armed Forces in order to participate in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine for personal gain.

The court considered his remorse for his actions and the absence of a previous conviction as mitigating circumstances. At the same time, the fact that the crime was committed with malicious and low intentions was considered an aggravating circumstance.

The court, applying Article 57 of the Criminal Code, imposed a lighter sentence not provided for in the sanction of the article - 5 years of restriction of freedom.

According to the verdict, the convict will be restricted from leaving his place of residence except for working hours and the time necessary for commuting to and from work. He is also prohibited from changing his place of residence and leaving the territory of the Fergana region without the consent of the probation agency.

The verdict can be appealed or cassation appeal filed in accordance with the established procedure.
