For the Tashkent metro, there are plans to purchase 70 new carriages worth up to $280 million
The Tashkent City Kengash of People's Deputies has approved the concept of purchasing 14 five-carriage trains for the capital's metro. The new trains are intended to replace some of the outdated carriages and reduce passenger waiting times.
From 2022 to 2025, the annual passenger traffic of the metro increased from 136.7 million to 287 million people. At the same time, a significant portion of the active carriages has been in use for several decades.
As part of the project, proposals from seven manufacturers were considered. The most inexpensive option is Chinese CRRC trains for $118.3 million, while the most expensive is Japanese Kawasaki for $279.1 million. The amount includes the trains themselves and delivery, but not additional project costs.
The supplier has not yet been determined. If the trains are purchased from a non-Russian manufacturer, a separate depot and maintenance base will be required. The preliminary cost of these facilities is estimated at $10.13 million, excluding design and other expenses.
The purchase is planned to be financed through loans, with subsequent repayment from the state budget. Deliveries must be completed in three batches by November 1, 2027.
The final cost and terms of the purchase will be determined after the completion of procedures and negotiations.
