According to DW, the incident occurred on the evening of October 18. The airline confirmed to Austria's APA news agency that a threat report had been received and that the aircraft was being inspected in the Bulgarian capital.
According to Flightradar24 data, the airliner initially flew along its normal route. However, in the skies over southern Romania, it turned sharply and headed toward Sofia.
Bulgarian officials told Sky News that before the plane landed, it was escorted by a national air force fighter jet. At the airport, all passengers were disembarked and the aircraft was inspected.
Approximately three hours later, the airliner took off again from Sofia. It arrived in Vienna overnight into October 19.
The report did not disclose who sent the threat or by what means, nor did it reveal the detailed results of the inspection.
