Expired products could cost sellers dearly: Uzbekistan strengthens liability
The Senate of the Oliy Majlis has approved a draft law that provides for stricter food safety requirements and increased fines for violations. The new regulations will affect manufacturers, sellers, and other participants in the food supply chain.
The document introduces uniform sanitary requirements for farmers and processing enterprises. At the same time, the relevant department will publish requirements for meat and other high-risk products in the public domain.
Specific amendments concern the sale of expired goods and products without a manufacture date. Currently, such violations carry a fine of 3 to 10 BRVs (basic calculating values). For a repeated violation within a year, the fine for officials can reach up to 20 BRVs, along with the confiscation of the products.
The new draft law provides for a further tightening of liability for such violations. The specific amounts of the increased fines will be determined after the adoption of the corresponding amendments.
